The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . The Mask of Midnight: A Gabriel McRay Novel . . . For a psychological thriller this one has to be one of the more alluring ones that I have read. It lured you in. Held you there and hand you turning page after page. A true psychological thriller. It played with the psychy of the detective and made him almost a wreck of the man he was. The skills of the villain in this one was just award winning. He played his part well.

The writing skills needed to pull off a psychological thriller of this magnitude was apparent. You found more and more to in Archwood to remind you of some of the other great nemesis/arch rival/villains of the times. The things that occur have you caught in a moment or two. You may just need to step back and blink and get readjusted. You fall that deep in to this game between two strong wills, crafty minds, and skilled adversaries. Archwood was not going down with out a show. McRay well lets just say the journey for him was not easy, smooth, or without its impact on the detective.

I have to admit that I usually do not read many psychological thrillers because of the intensity with in the pages, but this one gave you a reason to keep turning the page and want to come back for more.
1/2 stars
