It Started with a Kiss

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . IT STARTED WITH A KISS . . .This was a read that I was happy that I picked up to read. When I began the pages just kept coming at me. I was more so drawn in trying to find out if Avery would begin to believe. Then I was captured by the determination of Daniel to make her believe, in him. This was more than just a simple kiss. It was an experiment in human behavior. There were a few other characters that were worth getting to know. I found the plot line very easy to follow and stayed enjoyable. There was comedy. And a satisfying end. I could walk away from this one and feel pleased that it was a completed story.

BLURB
It started with a kiss.
Then it became so much more.
Love at first sight.
Avery Connor doesn’t believe in it.
But what about love at first kiss?
A favor for a friend. Kiss a stranger and walk away.
But what if that favor, and that stranger, prove to be the turning point of her life?

What if that kiss leads to something more?
Dr. Daniel Spencer is certain it will.
He is determined to make her see him. To feel what he feels.
To have the effects of that kiss last forever.
A story about taking a chance, opening your heart to the moment, and falling in love.

The Book Junkie Reads . .  Review of . . THE COACH AND THE SECRET (New Hampshire Bears, #5) . . . Definitely not what I was expecting from this series. This was deep. This was emotional. This was heartbreaking. This was painful. This was a lot to digest and consume. I was overwhelmed and wrapped around this one. I was most certainly not what the readers of this series would think of. It also opens your eyes to the various ways in which this type of abuse can happen and the avenues taken in life.

Read with caution if you are someone that has experience any type of domestic violence or abuse.

BLURB
Dear Reader,

This is not your typical synopsis you normally read.

In this section, you would see a short, overview of the book you may want to purchase. This time I’m speaking directly to you and warning you of this book. Most of my books have a lot of romance, sex, sometimes funny, and a lot of hot hockey players.

This book is different.

You see The Coach and the Secret is loosely based off a real man’s story. At first his story was so outrageous I almost didn’t believe it, but after seeing an abundance of evidence my heart broke for him and his daughter.
This book has extreme adult topics and please keep in mind when you read this, you don’t know unless you’ve been in their situation.

Thank you Mary Smith

Sweet Pursuits
by Pauline Wiles
January 26th 2017

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . SWEET PURSUITS . . . I love a good second chance romance. I love it even more when its the woman that sets her eyes on her man and make it all happen on her own. Okay so that does not happen much, but this time around Belle has a plan put in place and a way to get things moving. It was just a few things that tripped her up. Belle had to first fine love within and about herself. I started reading this one for the reason of finding me a romance, a good second chance for two people, but I ended with just wanting Belle to find that love for herself.

Having thing in the first person allowed for me to see what was really going on with Belle. What direction her head was going while her heart was going in another. The inner and outer Belle seemed to agree most of the time but there were moments. It was a growing experience for Belle to get both her inner and outer self on the same page and moving in the right direction. This was Belle's first chance at love, love of herself for all that she was and could be.

Wiles did a good job giving Belle a supportive cast of characters. The banter, the antics, the disasters, the triumphs, the struggles, the realizations. Belle held the key. Belle figuring things out was entertaining to watch from all aspects of it.

Looking for a light hearted but realistic comedy with a touch of romance but more about oneself. Take the time pick up Sweet Pursuits.

BLURB
What’s the recipe for a second chance at love?

After six blissful years with scientist boyfriend Owen, Bella Beecham was convinced he was about to pop the question she’d been longing to hear. Instead, he accepted a prestigious job in California and left England without a backwards glance. Now, Owen’s back in the village of Saffron Sweeting, and appears to be more eligible than ever. Bella’s determined that the man of her dreams won’t slip through her fingers again.

But her plans to tone up, trim down, and tempt Owen back into her life prove bittersweet. Although Bella’s talent for baking wins her new friends, her tasty treats have a disconcerting tendency to sabotage her own intentions. And as her increasingly bold attempts to recapture Owen’s heart stumble, Bella must question whether she’s chasing a guy who wants to be caught.

A British romantic comedy featuring both familiar characters and fresh faces, Sweet Pursuits explores how a young woman seeking her soulmate must first learn to love herself.

Consumed by the Dare

(Dare to Love Universe)

by Casey Hagen

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . CONSUMED BY THE DARE (Dare to Love Series) . . . London was on a mission to make a difference at her branch of the library system. She was not counting on a distraction while unveiling the program that could change it all. Or the sparks that ignited once they took the time to gt to know each other a bit better. One steamy night of unbriddle passion turned the sexy librarian in to something more. For bad boy, Ryker, things change from the bad boy, hot temper, player. He was not looking to change his image. He was not looking to find someone that could make him whole. But one bad turn too many and he landed himself back on home turf and in the line of fire of his parents, a sexy librarian, and a chance to make his life mean more.

BLURB
London Abbott, head librarian of the Bronx Public Library, is determined to turn a reading initiative into a raving success, solidifying the career and financial security she craves. Adding the burden of a tag-along playboy trying to improve his tarnished image is a stressor London doesn’t need, but when a trusted friend calls in a favor, she’s saddled with bad-boy football star Ryker Christiansen.

Ryker never imagined his lucrative contract with the Miami Thunder would ever be at risk, but after too many nights of partying he’s told to repair his tattered reputation or be terminated. Sent to New York to preen for the media and show his altruistic side by working with children and seniors, he’s committed to sitting in a Bookmobile with antsy kids, ornery seniors, and taking orders from a snotty librarian.

Unsympathetic, London tests Ryker’s mettle without mercy. He earns her respect by meeting every challenge she creates, proving he’s more than just one more overindulged athlete. But there is one more prize he’s determined to win, so he dares London to step out of her carefully constructed world for a walk with him on the wild side.

London expects to bring Ryker down a notch or two, but as their slow-burning heat erupts into sexual flames, the intensity of the fire threatens to either destroy their hearts or forge them together. Discovering which comes with a price. Will they emerge stronger? Or are they destined to be…Consumed by the Dare.

She’s the proud mother of three girls and a new, first-time grandma with an insatiable addiction to Fall Out Boy, and a new, rather concerning obsession with tattoos and piercings. Can you say “cool grandma?”

The inked and pierced grandma spends her time tucked away in her office, coated in cat hair, alternating between tearing her hair out trying to find the perfect words and being one step ahead of her three scheming fur babies she is positive are plotting her demise with every swirl around her ankles at the top of her office stairs.

She loves writing stories about real people, with complicated histories, relatable everyday problems, and giving them the hard-won happily-ever-afters they deserve.

Read 2 Review - YA Fantasy - Angelbound Origin series #1 - 3 by Christina Bauer

Publisher's Note: Christina Bauer is a non-linear thinker who came up with ARMAGEDDON and then went back and wrote some earlier books. This is why you'll see ARMAGEDDON (Book 7) and the Offspring series available before THE BRUTAL TIME (Book 6). We've told her to stop this practice, but she keeps giving us lewd hand gestures in response. Apologies in advance for any inconvenience.

Angelbound

(Angelbound Origins, #1)

31932429by Christina Bauer

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . ANGELBOUND (Anglebound Origins, #1) . . . The truth of things has a price so different from love. The reality of things has a different price also. What is truth and what is reality? Myla Lewis finds the difference can be life changing. The reality of things may change this quasi-demon’s view on her world and her place within it.

Myla was a kick-ass kinda girl that did it all in a mature way. I fell in love with her and her independence. Her spirit. Her fight. Just her period. She knew herself even if she did not know exactly where she came from. She had her mom but what about dad.

This was a YA read that transported you. Tempted you to think beyond the borders of your imagination and cross lines of reality. This was a woman on the edge of adulthood but this was most certainly a ya read. The violence was violent but not explicit or over the top. The lustful thoughts of a teen were just that. Everything was well rated and contained to suit the audience it was intended for. I loved the read. I was excited to be able to pick up the next book in the series. The flow was great. The characters varied and complex.

The details of the world were vivid and rich. There were some over explanation in areas but I could appreciate what was being presented. A full picture of the world was give and it was well received on my end. It allowed for my imagination to take full hold of what was being described.

I got lost in this world created by Christina Bauer with demons, quasi demons, angels, purgatory, hell on earth and so much more. I was transported to a world that was so unreal that it felt so real. I look forward to taking the time to listen to the audio. Especially since it was done by Christina herself. I believe she will be able to add that just right touch to make it come to life.

BLURB
Eighteen year old Myla Lewis is a girl who loves two things: kicking ass and kicking ass. She’s not your every day quasi-demon, part-demon and part-human, girl. For the past five years, Myla has lived for the days she gets to fight in Purgatory’s arena. When souls want a trial by combat for their right to enter Heaven or Hell, they go up against her, and she hasn’t lost a battle yet.

But as she starts her senior year at Purgatory High, the arena fights aren’t enough to keep her spirits up anymore. When the demons start to act weird, even for demons, and the King of the Demons, Armageddon, shows up at Myla’s school, she knows that things are changing and it’s not looking good for the quasi-demons.

Myla starts to question everything, and doesn’t like the answers she finds. What happened seventeen years ago that turned the quasi-demons into slave labor? Why was her mom always so sad? And why won’t anyone tell her who her father is? Things heat up when Myla meets Lincoln, the High Prince of the Thrax, a super sexy part-human and part-angel demon hunter. But what’s a quasi-demon girl to do when she falls for a demon hunter? It’s a good thing that Myla’s not afraid of breaking a few rules. With a love worth fighting for, Myla’s going to shake up Purgatory.

Scala

(Angelbound Origins, #2)

Monster House Books

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . SCALA (Angelbound Origins, #2) . . . Myla has become a girl/young woman to be reckoned with. She has sharp tongue, quick witt, killer skills, and she holds the destination of souls in her hands. With all this she had to figure out a way to get the good souls to where they belong and not send all souls to hell. This book flowed so well from the first book of the series. We get going with Myla and her newly attained gift of transferring souls. Something stands in her way and she has to figure it all out and get things back on track.

Things in book one were more on the level of allowing you to get to know the world and to appreciate Myla. Now here in book two, the pacing has picked up and things are going off with lots of bangs. Lincoln and Myla are getting stronger with their relationship. Life is moving along for our Scala.

BLURB
Nineteen-year-old Myla Lewis has transformed into Great Scala, the only being with the power to move souls out of Purgatory and into Heaven or Hell. Trouble is, a magical object called Lucifer’s Orb is limiting Myla’s abilities. If she tries to move a soul, the Orb’s forcing her to send that spirit straight to Hell.

So, what’s a girl to do? Send innocents to the fiery down-under?

No way. Myla’s gone on a supernatural strike.

No souls go anywhere until the Orb’s history. It’s the right thing to do, but Purgatory’s Soul Storage buildings are turning into time bombs. No spirits are moving out, while millions keep coming in. Myla’s determined to find the Orb and send the innocent to Heaven, but she’s running out of time. Soon, the containment fields will burst, releasing a mob of homicidal ghosts.

With Soul Storage ready to explode, Myla’s got enough on her plate without her old enemy, Lady Adair, causing problems. Adair is launching an ingenious campaign to take away everything that Myla holds dear, including Myla’s Angelbound love, Prince Lincoln.

Between their clever ideas and toe-curling kisses, Myla and Lincoln are fighting back. But will they beat the clock or lose everything to Adair’s devious schemes?

Acca

(Angelbound Origins, #3)

31931161by Christina Bauer

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . ACCA (Angelbound Origins, #3) . . . "Supernatural warrior Myla Lewis must discover enough evidence to send the evil House of Acca to prison… or she’ll end up in jail herself, along with her fiancé, Prince Lincoln. No pressure."

This was just one heck of a way to go into reading this action-packed, adventured filled, supernatural fantasy romance. Myla had her hands full of getting the goods and keeping herself and her prince out of prison. This was no easy task. Things had a bite with twist turns and deception. Still filled with great well-developed characters and a plot-line that keep it coming. Sending Myla and Lincoln both back to high school, on Earth. There they get all kinds of things going. To find the truth Myla will do what it takes to survive.

Christina gave another great addition to this supernatural series that have me wanting more. Myla has all the witt, charm, gumption and strength to make a strong fierce role model for the young-ladies of today.

BLURB
In just one week, supernatural warrior Myla Lewis must discover enough evidence to send the evil House of Acca to prison… or she’ll end up in jail herself, along with her fiancé, Prince Lincoln. No pressure.

To gather proof, Myla and Lincoln go undercover at an all-girl’s high school on Earth. Lincoln acts as the new gym teacher; Myla becomes the school’s least popular transfer student ever. To stop them from getting the goods, Acca releases Hell on Earth. Literally. Good thing Myla and Lincoln aren’t afraid of a tough fight. This one promises to be the hardest yet. After all, who ever said high school wasn’t hell?

Christina Bauer thinks that fantasy books are like bacon: they just make life better. All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T. The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . SHADOWS OF THE FOREST . . . I was expecting a fantastical read. I was expecting to be enchanted. The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . SNOWED IN . . . Caution. . . if you do not like insta-love, love at first site or any of the such this will be you only warning. Snowed In was a sweet, holiday read of love, loneliness, pain, sorrow, and chance to love with no bounds. Sweet. Adorable. Heartwarming. The perfect cap to top the night on a cold winter’s night.

BLURB
Emma's life seems to crumble around her one cold winter night, as she's aimlessly wandering around a small, forgotten town, miles away from home. That's until a generous young woman takes her in and, together with her handsome brother, makes her find new reasons why life deserves to be celebrated.

But when beautiful, wounded Emma walks into his life, all of that changes. Soon, all that matters to him is keeping her safe and making her his.

Snowed In is a cozy, sweet but steamy, love-at-first-sight novella, made to warm you up this winter season and keep you dreaming of knights in shining armors with childish optimism.

Warrior's Mate

(Yadeshi Brides #3)

by
January 7th 2017
Hard Candies Publishing

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . WARRIOR'S MATE (Yadeshi Brides, #3) . . . Can you say yes alien BDSM may be just a bit more kinky than the norm?

I was impresded with the increased level if intensity that came about in this one. Things developed with more depth. There were more characters to involve and a richer plot line. There were moment of confusion but the theread was retrieved rather quickly. The jump in events may have thrown me a bit but I love this story. Gwen, high ranking daddy's princess, and alien prince, Ithann. This one had the heat, bite of passion, intense fire of defiance.

I am looking to see which alien will catpure his earth mate next. I found this one has more editing done and less errors with punctuation.

BLURB
A Dark Alien Prince + his unquenchable desire x his insatiable thirst = a warrior willing to defy a galaxy to claim his mate.

Born with a platinum spoon in her mouth, warrior bride-in-training Gayle throws it away in order to sneak aboard a Yadeshi military vessel to escape imprisonment by her family.

Ithann, the alpha alien warrior she's been taunting with flirts and sloe-eyed glances for several weeks, is enraged by her sudden disappearance and abandons his teaching post to follow. When he catches her, Gayle must accept a highly indecent proposal to avoid being thrown in the ship's brig - and by accepting, embroils herself in Ithann's decades long feud with a rival nobleman.

Roped into an arranged marriage, she is determined to avoid the shackles of a mate bond, but Ithann is determined that not only will they bond, but that she will have his baby. Their battle of wills may cost Gayle her life.

A scorching hot, borderline dark sci-fi/fantasy romance for readers who enjoy taunting, alpha, bloodthirsty - and blood-drinking - alien warriors who will sever heads to claim their chosen mates. A 40K word novel, HEA, It may be read as a standalone, however characters from the prior two books make brief appearances.
