READ-2-REVIEW - CONTEMPORARY - DOWN FOR THE COUNT by S. Marie and Victor Rahl

Down for the Count
Authors: S. Marie & Victor Rahl
Published: January 8th 2024
Genre/Tropes: MMA, Forced Proximity, Intense, Gritty, Mafia, Suspense, Alpha Male, Forbidden, Single Mom

The real me lives in the shadows, the seedy underbelly, where sin Is the only air we know how to breathe.

My dreams of going Pro are at my fingertips. But in one moment, one hit, those dreams come crashing down around me.

The money, the fame, the life I wanted to give my mother. All gone.

Once I was Kingston “The King” Reyes. Women and men had chanted my name. Worshiped me. Now I work as a postal worker by day…and at night, I crawl into the dark, seedy underbelly of sin. An illegal underground fight club, where I still reign with my fists, but where every fight could be my last.

The “Brothers,” Dutch and Dom, hold my leash while they pay for my mother’s cancer treatments. I’m their puppet, their boy toy for wealthy women and power. You don’t cross them unless you want to end up on the bottom of a river.

Corrupt darkness coats my skin, marks my bones. I don’t see any light or hope, until on my route, I meet a pint-sized, mute, little girl, who seems to look right through me. She sees past the bruises and scars, while I can hear beyond her silence.

Yet it is her mother, Sawyer, I should run from. Sexy, feisty, and smart, Sawyer’s darkness draws me in. Challenges me.

She is everything I can’t have. Everything forbidden.
But everything I want.
No matter the consequences . . .

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . DOWN FOR THE COUNT . . . Intense. Determined. Driven. Protective. Love. Respect. Abuse. Violence. Selective mutism?

We begin with a flashback to the time when he was all on top and then it all crashed down around him. All in just a hair's breadth of time. It was all taken away. The future he dreamed of and worked so hard for, over. It just took that simple moment. Now, years later, his life is not what he was planning for. But here comes another moment in time. A moment that will change his life yet again. Will this one be a good or bad change? Kingston is not sure but willing to move forward anyway.

She thought herself in love years ago. She was wine, dined, and bedded. The difference between her and the others. She chose to keep her baby. She was willing to do almost anything to make sure her daughter would have what was needed. She was not looking to bankroll a high life. When she missed the signs of something being wrong with her daughter she blamed herself. Selective mutism, this was something she never heard of. Now, she has to deal. Sawyer did not see dealing with him in the picture.

Down. Dirty. Raw. Intense. Action. Suspense. Sweet. Romance. Reunion. Relief. There was a lot in this story. There were moments when I did not think Kingston would make it to the end. Down for the Count gave a good ending but it was not the highlife ending some may wish for. It was sweet and pulled a little bit on the heart strings. I recommend picking this one up.

READ-2-REVIEW - ROM-COM - THE GRUMP AND THE CHEFF (Grumpy Hot Mountain Men) by Wendy Ashford

The Grump and the Chef
Grumpy Hot Mountain Men
by Wendy Ashford
Published: December 13th 2023
Cover Design: @robertazeta @robertazeta.illustration
Genre: Spicy Rom-Com
Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, small town, snowed in

There are bad days, and there are unbelievably bad days.

When Olivia woke up, she thought it would be one of those perfect days that put a smile on her face. She had a stable boyfriend, a job that paid the bills, a terrific colleague and best friend, and no clouds looming over her perfect morning.

But that same morning, Olivia got fired. It was a bad day.

And she was dumped by her boyfriend. It was an unbelievably bad day.

She needed to think, regroup, and come up with a plan to fix the mess. What better place to get a grip on her life than the Olympic Peninsula, where she spent her childhood summers?

There, that was the plan. She would be on her feet in no time. At least, she thought she would be until she realized she was stuck in a cabin, under six feet of snow, with a grumpy, sexy mountain man.

A cabin that didn’t have a TV, Internet, or a functioning phone. Well, looking at the bright side, she had zero distractions to come up with her master plan.

She only had to avoid staring at Noah’s biceps, threatening to rip the t-shirt, or how his sweatpants hugged his toned backside.

The Grump and the Chef is an easy, short, spicy rom-com featuring a bubbly, cheerful chef, a grumpy, sexy handyman, and a rooster with a soft spot for blond curvy guests.

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . THE GRUMP AND THE CHEF (Grumpy Hot Mountain Men) . . . Olivia had a really bad day. This had me in her corner from that point. I enjoy the quirk and fun of the story. I enjoyed the flow of it as well.

Opposites, Noah and Olivia find that they are in a space together, for an undetermined time frame. The craziest thing that ensued was fun to follow. This was a quick read that brought a smile and distraction.

I could have used more details and a little more about Noah.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Wonderful characters Funny Witty Easy-to-read So wrong but right

Wendy Ashford loves to write spicy small-town romance novels that end with a Happily Ever After. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, dog, and cat. She loves the beach during winter and walking in the snow.

READ-2-REVIEW - CONTEMPORARY - THE SEXY BILLIONAIRE (Italian Nights, #2) by JA Low

The Sexy Billionaire
Italian Nights, #2
by JA Low
Release Date: February 18th 2024
Cover Design: Simply Defined Art
Photographer: Wander Book Club Photography
Cover Model: Leonardo
Genre: Billionaire/Second Chance Romance

Giorgio
I’ve always been the dutiful son, living my life for everyone else but me.

So, walking in on my fiancée with someone else during our engagement party should have filled me with devastation, but instead, I felt relieved.

When a drunken message to the woman whose heart I broke all those years ago comes back with a reply, will this be the second chance I’ve always hoped for, or is it too late?

Paige
This isn’t at all how I saw my life playing out.

It started with discovering I’ve inherited my Great Aunt’s estate in Italy.

Then I walk into our restaurant and find my husband giving his French baguette to our sous chef.

And because I hadn’t suffered enough, the universe decides to bring back into my life the one man I swore I’d never speak to ever again.

Except now he’s a sexy billionaire.

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . THE SEXY BILLIONAIRE (Italian Nights, #2) . . . What can I say? After reading The Sexy Stranger and the information that I found in that story, I am left trying to figure out why would it mater if Giorgio is a billionaire when he is a prince. All will be revealed. I had to just pull up my boot straps and start reading. On to the tale of Paige and Giorgio. What titbits would I find inside the pages that would have me falling in love almost as much with Giorgio as I did with Luca.

There was no disappointment with this installment in the Italian Nights series. I fell in love with Giorgio and Paige. I think Paige had me before Giorgio did. Giorgio and Paige were getting a second chance to make things the way it could have been or better than the first time around.

I still had issue with family. Sometimes sisters can be a real pain. But then its that one time with something really good comes out of it all. I got me a twist or two. and that was amazing. I had time with Luca, Lilly, Natalia, and some new friends. I would have really loved to have met the aunt outside of memories and Paige's close call.

JA Low lives on the Gold Coast in Australia. When she's not writing steamy scenes and admiring hot surfers, she's tending to her husband, two sons and all her chickens while dreaming up the next epic romance.
